      IMS Database Recovery Control (DBRC)

      Course Abstract: This course is designed to provide the student with a working knowledge of the management and recovery of databases, systems and logs under IMS V9 DBRC.

      Duration: 5 days

      Primary Audience: IMS system programmers, technical support staff, DBAs and senior IMS application programmers requiring a detailed knowledge of DBRC and its use in managing and recovering IMS logs, databases and systems.

      Prerequisites: TSO/ISPF, MVS JCL, VSAM AMS, an understanding of the IMS database utilities and on-line logging.

      Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

      • Allocate, initialize, maintain and recover RECON datasets
      • Use the GENJCL function to build JCL for IMS database utilities
      • Use and maintain log dataset information
      • Register full function and Fast Path databases in order to manage recovery and to protect against invalid use
      • Describe the authorization process and its function in protecting database integrity
      • Describe the interaction between IMS database utilities and DBRC
      • Use and maintain DBRC’s information about database reorganizations, image copies, change accumulations, recoveries and batch backouts
      • Understand, use, and maintain the information in your installation’s RECON

      Class Format: Lecture with hands-on exercises.

      Cost: In-house: $9,000 for up to 15 students; $500 for each additional student. Public: $2,830
