      IMS Management Overview

      Course Abstract: This course provides management and senior analyst staff with the information necessary to manage and lead large database projects. The focus is directed to the IMS technology including IMS Transaction Manager (TM), IMS Database (DB), IMS Fast Path and IMS Application Development Facility (IMSADF). DB2 concepts are presented and comparisons are made between DB2 and IMS DB. This course is customized for the installation.

      Duration: 3 days

      Primary Audience: Management, business analyst and senior design staff. This course is not for the technician.

      Prerequisites: None

      Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

      • Understand terminology used by technical staff
      • Be able to plan the installation of database projects meeting the required implementation cut-off dates
      • Describe the performance issues relevant to the chosen technology
      • List and describe the tools and productivity aids available to the development staff
      • Understand the division of responsibilities and communication required between the systems and technical support staff

      Class Format: Lecture and group discussion.

      Cost: In-house: $5,100 for up to 15 students; $300 for each additional student.
